FIRST RAY CASEY TRIPLES IN ARCADIA
On Thursday the 20th of October 2011, the Santa Anita Bowling Green Club held the first of The Ray Casey Memorial Tournaments. Ray was a longtime member of the lawn bowling club and a retired Arcadia Policeman. He passed away about 2 years ago and his wife gave the lawn bowlers the prize money for the tournament named for Ray. Sad to say, Ray's wife Sharon died last year and didn’t get to see how the club turned out in memory of Ray. Irene Mastro, a close friend of Ray, is the Tournament Director.
The format for this first tournament was Triples. The teams were comprised of both men and women,and in all, thirty bowlers entered the event. This was a one game tournament,and the next one will be Pairs and they will play two games. The winners are decided by the number of wins and Plus Points. Plus points are the difference between the team scores. For example, if you won your game 10 to 3, then your Plus Points would amount to a Plus 7 (+7).These points determine your placement in the overall standings.
The triple team that won the tournament was headed by Ted Bailey as Skip, Bob Hauerwaas as Vice and Jean Dowd in the Lead position. Second place was the team of Steve Dowd, Alan Ngo and Bill MacFarland. Rounding out the three top teams was Kay Tong, Sandy Dalzell and Mary Carroll. The next tournament will be November 19th at the club greens in the Arcadia County Park in Arcadia. The rest of the field was: Fred Robles, Shirley Price and Bob Schmalholz from San Clemente,Mary Russell, Marc Rich, John Gonzales, Louie Aguilar, Jim and Mattie Miller,Peter Iles, Juanita Jones,, Marinko Tudor, Jean Reid, Ka-Yiu Yu, Dick Ashmore, Ray Obazawa, Shuman Chan, Doralyn Clausen, Bob Ratcliffe, Betty Barnett, and Irene Mastro.
Lawn Bowling is a low impact, light aerobic exercise that is easy to learn and will last you a lifetime. The Santa Anita club is looking for new members. JANUARY 2012 WINNERS
Winners are determined by selecting the best records for the month based on the player's best three games out of four games played. At least three games must be played during the month. Starting in November, the games start at 9:00 A.M. (winter schedule) The winners for first place: Lead, Peter Iles; Vice, Bob Hauerwaas and Skip, Houdini Ho. The second place winners were: Lead, Rich Bjerrum; Vice, Juanita Jones and Skip, Dewey Tse. The third place winners were: Lead, Ray Obazawa; Vice, Gene Plunkett and Skip, Marinko Tudor.
