NEW CLUB DUES

  In case you missed last month’s edition. Here is our new club dues breakdown. Please try to pay your dues ASAP.

 Things are getting more costly all over. USLBA has doubled their yearly dues to $20.00. The Executive Board discussed this on the 26th of January and came up with a solution. Our current club dues are $40.00. $20 goes to the club, $10 goes to the SWD and $10 went to USLBA. Our new approach will be the same with the exception of the $10 for the USLBA. That $10 will go to our treasury for our tournaments and prizes. If you want to belong to the USLBA for higher-level tournaments, you’ll have to pay another $10.00. Then the $10 in your dues will pay for the increased USLBA dues.  Since there are not too many “high level tournament bowlers” the extra $10.00 will only affect them.  Non-bowlers still only pay $30.00 That’s $20 for the club and $10 for the SW Division.


CLUB DUES TIME

   You should have already payed your dues. Gene and Gayle will begin working on the 2010 Club Directory shortly. Get your dues paid up. If you want another picture in the directory see Gene at the next event.  Some pictures are rather dark or you face has a shadow on it or you just had a bad hair day. If you want a new picture let Gene know.  There are several of you that haven’t paid your club dues. Shuman Chan is trying to wrap up this years  dues.  Please pay them ASAP. 

 

NEW MICROWAVE

   February 23rd was the retirement date for the old microwave that we have had since 1983.

  We now have a new smaller microwave to replace the old one and it is easier to use than the older one.

 

WHITES INFO

   Starting this issue of THE HOGLINE we will be making you aware of the


events and tournaments that whites should be worn.  Some have asked to make the club members aware that the wearing of whites is a tradition and it’s a unifying symbol.  As most of you know, when one of our bowling friends pass away, it’s customary for those attending the funeral or memorial to wear whites. We have received many nice compliments about our group showing unity at such events. So, on page 2 of this issue there will be notations after an event that will say “(whites).”

If you are attending any event as a spectator then it’s not required to wear the whites.

 

OPEN HOUSE

  We will be holding our annual Open House on the 15th of May. If you have any ideas on how to get more visitors to come by, let Jim Miller know. Ask around your neighborhood and see if you can get one of your neighbors to try lawn bowling.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

   Well the Rose Parade brought beautiful weather again. Large crowds, and all the hoopla you would ever need were there.  Now it’s time to get back to some serious lawn bowling.  The Executive Board would like for the Skips to brief their teams before each game. We need reminders about where to hold your hands when aligning the jack. Keep them up at least shoulder high and to the left or right, depending on which direction you need to move the jack. Indicate the distance to move it by the amount of space between your hands. Wide for a lot of distance, hands close together for short distances. Don’t hold your hands in front of your body. Sometimes it’s hard to see your directions.

  We need to enforce some of the most glaring mistakes, like throwing a short jack. Return it to the mat end and let the next Lead make a toss. It’s a lot easier to just set the jack, but it’s not correct. Other


things we all should be aware of is placement of the feet ON the mat. The basic rule is to have at least one foot on or above the confines of the mat when delivering the jack or your bowl. In a big tournament you could lose a point by “foot faulting.”

Remember the old etiquette you learned about bowling, stepping off the mat to your right, picking up your bowl and standing behind the other person on the mat? That keeps you out of the way and out of sight.
